The Sharing Economy | Fast Company

The Sharing Economy | Fast Company.

What do Netflix and The Works have in common? Over at Fast Company they have a great article on something we firmly believe in and strongly support growing within Wakulla county. Coworking is a great example of a central element in the “sharing economy”. Read more…

The Sunday Times

Ah, Sundays. A day of worship. A day of rest and play. A day of (groan) house chores. We know that Sundays can be your busiest day of the week.

Truthfully, Sundays at The Works have been quiet. That’s great for those looking for a little peace so they can study, catch up on some work or just relax and read the paper over a nice cup of coffee. We, of course, are here to bring you “great coffee in a great place” but with just a slight adjustment in our Sunday hours. Beginning on Sunday March 13 our new Sunday hours will be from 12 noon to 5:00 pm. We are also lowering our coworking daypasses on Sundays to $10.

To liven up Sundays we would like to jump-start some initiatives we have on the back burners. But before we do so, we want to turn to you, our community of awesome fans and followers, about any ideas you would like to see come to fruition not just at The Works but in Wakulla as a whole. We’re crowdsourcing idea generation and we want to hear from you.

In the comments section below tell us and your neighbors what sparks of genius you have. How do you want to change the world starting in our neck of the woods? Or, how would you like The Works to do things differently or how can we add to the services we already provide? Do you want to give a shout out to a charity or organization you’re actively involved in that you feel needs more attention? Whatever your story is please don’t hesitate to share. We look forward to hearing from all of you.

Thanks in advance from your friends at The Works!

We’re Crowdsourcing Our Design!

Cafe version 6

Update 09.02.10: We have some great ideas we would like to share…

We’re throwing out a crowdsourcing challenge for anyone interested in helping us come up with an arrangement for the general seating area. The area fits 20 to 24 patrons.

Some guidelines

  • Area must be accessible for handicapped patrons
  • The cafe will have white walls and ceiling. The floor is light tile.
  • We’re looking for a combination of tables + chairs and sofa/loveseat/chair sets
  • A large screen LCD tv will be on the western wall facing east. Sorry I forgot to include it in the image.
  • We have Milan taste with an Ikea budget. We’re looking for a really modern style that lives up to abuse and doesn’t break the bank

If you’re up for the challenge, simply download the Sketchup file and design to your hearts content. Then post an image up somewhere on the web so we can see it. Be sure to include any helpful information like the make, style and color of the furniture, the manufacturer, the price, etc. Post a comment with a link to the post.

Alternatively, feel free to just send links to images you find on the web that portray what you would do.

If we chose your idea we’ll give you mega thanks and credits on our site along with some cool schwag.

We’re looking forward to your suggestions!
